We welcome Mary Lawton A mom, artist, healthy foods advocate. HISD Health Advisory Council, on the steering committee for the Healthy Kids Healthy Schools Summit. Mary works on a local and state level to affect Our future through Our children. “We said, ‘No more Little Debbie cakes. No more fried chips. No more ice cream every day of the week,'” recounts school wellness coordinator Mary Lawton. The effort was sparked by a school lunch she shared with her children several years ago when she watched, horrified, as grade-schoolers helped themselves to unlimited doughnuts and chips. “Everything else (went) straight in the trash.”
